
Associates, friends and family members have asked me what is behind the name Mentor Performance Systems. The meaning of each word contains important factors necessary to not only attain success, but also significance. Let’s look further into each word.
Mentor
Today the word “mentor” has almost become a cliché. Mentors have been described as instructors, teachers, counselors, professors and coaches. In addition to these roles, true mentors do not simply focus on a person’s accomplishments, but also promote their wellbeing. True mentors focus on the body, soul and spirit of the person they mentor. They use trust, credibility and respect as prerequisites to achieve peak performance. They connect at the spiritual level, which drives both emotional and physical commitments and results in greater success.
Performance
There is a big difference between activities and results. Life can become complex when our goals and aspirations are trumped by intentions and misdirected activities. Our performance does not define us, but it speaks loudly about the impact we make in the world. People don’t care about what you believe until they respect what you do. Performance meets at the intersection of our beliefs and our efforts.
Systems
A system is simply a way to get things done. Every culture has systems that support different activities to achieve results. You can find systems in simple things like the games children play. Systems are also in place within complex organizations such as governments and corporations. Systems provide strategies to maximize talent and skills to achieve our goals and aspirations.
